10 minimalist tips to de-stress

10 Minimalist Tips To De-Stress.

There are many reasons why minimalism is growing as a lifestyle choice. It is not only good for your wallet, but it can also transform your mindset and how you feel.

Minimalism is an ongoing process that you develop over time. There is no one way to do this. It is a process of reducing items in your home to suit you and your needs.

However, if you are on the fence about becoming minimalist, but are feeling overwhelmed and stressed in your daily life, minimalism could be the answer.

Here are 10 minimalism tips to help you to de-stress…

  1. Edit. If you haven’t watched The Home Edit on Netflix yet, then you are missing out. The first element of minimalism is to edit out all of the items that you no longer need. Reducing the items in your home will help you to see more clearly all the fabulous things that you do have. Cutting out the items you don’t need will free up valuable space and improve the overall feeling of calm within the home.
  2. Make sure everything has a home. Once you have edited out things you no longer need, it is important that everything has a place to live. Once it does, it is much easier to be able to put things back, as well as being more likely to put things away to leave your home more manageable and tidy.
  3. Reduce the amount of furniture in your home. This will visually improve the look of the home, as well as giving you less surfaces to accumulate clutter and dirt. It will also be easier to keep clean!!
  4. Create an easy filing system for paperwork. It’s all about having the right system that works for you. This can save you valuable time in filing documents away, as well as being able to find important documents too.
  5. Shop quality over quantity. Be considerate about your purchases. Only let quality items into your home that will last and serve a purchase.
  6. Set clear priorities. Minimalism is not just about reduce your things. It is also an opportunity to be intentional with who you spend time with and what you do with your time. Prioritise what’s important to you. People over things.
  7. Create digital organisation strategies. For work, it is important that you have a clear system for organising emails and documents, etc.
  8. Reduce visual clutter. Look at areas that you can visually see every day such as the view sat up in bed or sat on the sofa. What can you see on the surfaces/walls. Is it cluttered with things and items that you enjoy or items that create a distraction? Reduce anything that is not visually appealing to you either by taking it out of your home or moving it to a different place. Visual clutter can be really distracting and cause cause hidden stress, so it is important that your view is simple and to your liking.
  9. Cut useless expenses. Do you have any subscriptions that you no longer use or do you spend too much time shopping but not know what you are looking to buy? These are all unnecessary and can create additional stress. Reducing expenses will lower financial stress. Be intentional with purchases and only go out with a specific list of needed items. It will save you time and money.
  10. Let things go. This applies to several contexts. Being able to detach monetary value from objects will make it easier to donate or sell items from your home. Attachment to memories can be something that challenges you when decluttering, but if you detach from this you will be much more willing to part with items that you no longer need or no longer serve a purpose for you. This can also apply to interactions and disagreements with others. I am not saying you need to forgive and forget things that have caused you upset, but trying to find a way of letting go internally of this will help you to draw a line mentally and move forward.

Minimalism has the power to transform the space around you to allow you to feel calm and stress free. It’s about finding what works best for you.
