5 Ways to REDUCE Clutter in your home!

I may have decluttered my entire home, but I still seem to develop areas of clutter on a regular basis. In an attempt to reduce this clutter I have implemented 5 strategies to help combat the clutter with little effort!

I love to organise areas of my home, but finding enough time to tidy up around the house can be a challenge as a busy working mum. So here are 5 quick and easy ways to reduce the clutter so that it doesn’t build up and become unmanageable.

  1. Find everything a home – the first and easiest way to keep a tidy home is to make sure everything has a place. The place that you choose, however, must be considered carefully. It is important to ensure that the home for that item makes sense; so that you are more likely to return the item to its home. For example, phone/device chargers could live in a set drawer.
  2. Have a one in one out policy – this helps to reduce the number of items in your home so that they don’t mount up. Keep the number of items in your home limited. For example, if you buy a magazine, then you need to make sure you have thrown out the last one. Don’t allow items to accumulate. This is particularly noticeable after a declutter of an area as you don’t want to undo the hard work you have already done!
  3. Buy items that are multi-purpose – this can apply to so many items in your home from cleaning products to clothing. I often only purchase clothing items that would be suitable for a range of occasions, such as a dress that could be casual, for work or a night out with glam accessories. In my front room I have a range of cushions that I will bring outside for outdoor cushions in summer months. There’s no need to have separate items that can be used for a similar purpose.
  4. Have furniture that is purposeful, such as storage units that have plenty of space to store your things out of sight, as well as to house your TV. In your hallway have a storage bench that you can put all the shoes in.
  5. Follow the one minute rule – if it takes less than a minute to put the item away then you need to be doing this straight away! This will mean those quick little jobs on’t build up and create clutter, as well as becoming a bigger job to tidy.

I hope these tips are helpful in reducing the visual clutter in your home.
