How To STOP Clutter Creeping Back In!
Let’s talk about clutter and how we can stop it creeping back in and building up in our homes! Want to stop clutter creeping back in? Here are some vital steps that will help you reduce the visual clutter within your home.
What is clutter?
This is the items that come in and seem to accumulate in the wrong places around our home. You can find these items building up on the surfaces that often doesn’t have a place to live.
1. Complete one minute jobs straight away
Here, I am referring to any job around the house that would take less than a minute to complete. These jobs are initial very quick and easy tasks. The problem with not completely these quick jobs straight away is that they start to build up. Soon enough they become much bigger collection of jobs that you now feel the need to block time out to do. This in itself can be demotivating. Try and get back into the habit of completing these small tasks as soon as you sot them. It will take away any build up of stress and visual clutter.
2. Find everything a home
If you were to look at the clutter around your home, would you be able to identify items that should be in a certain place? If so, it’s time to start putting things back. Consider why you might not be putting them back as well. Is it because the place it belongs doesn’t suit how you use the item? For anything else that doesn’t already have a home, it’s now time to find it’s perfect place. Think carefully about how you use the item and where might be the easiest place to store it, and remember to keep like minded items together for ease. When everything has a home it become much easier to tidy and to clean.
3. Have a one in one out policy
If you are trying to put a cap on the number of items within your home, then this tip is going to be perfect for you whilst you try and declutter your home. If you bring in a new item into your home, the rule is you need to declutter a similar likeminded item. This will help you to think about the purchases you make, knowing you will have to remove an item if you do buy.
4. Consider each purchase
Ask yourself if you really need each item you buy. Is it going to add value to your life/serve a purpose? Is this item going to make you happy? This question is more important than anything. Life is about find happiness. If you know you will love it then it is adding value. If that item will enrich your life then it is worth every penny. Consider also the quality of the item and whether it is going to last.
5. Create daily decluttering habits
The prices of decluttering can feel overwhelming. But there is an alternative. Building little acts of decluttering into each day is going to help you building up your strength when it comes to decluttering. Each time you declutter you will find it easier to make decisions about what to keep and what to donate, sell or recycle. Daily decluttering will help you maintain the level of items within your home.
