If you are decluttering your home, you may still find that visual clutter is still a feature. Here are 10 ways to reduce that visual clutter to create a stress free, easy to tidy home free of visual clutter.

Reduce down the number of items in your home

If you haven’t already, then it’s time to start decluttering and reduce down the number of items in your home. Start making decisions about what is necessary and take away anything that’s not. Less items will mean less chance of clutter seeping out of cupboards and onto surfaces.

Make sure everything has a home

You may think that you already have a home for everything. But if you are still noticing visual clutter, the chances are that you don’t have the right home for your things. You need to think carefully about where you are keeping your item. Is it near to where you would use it so that it is easy to find as well as put things back. Strategic thinking will help you to become more organised with your possessions so that you are more likely to put things away to help prevent clutter from accumulating on the surfaces.

Have a one in one out policy

This is the easiest way to maintain the number of items in your home. It’s going to prevent additional build up of items over time so that you can keep control of the situation.

Reduce down the amount of furniture

Every item of furniture has the opportunity to harvest surface clutter. If you have any excess furniture that can be sold or donated do so. This will drastically change the feel and look of your home. It will free up space and prevent the opportunity for clutter to develop.

Contain items

Am easy way to reduce visual clutter is to contain items within baskets or storage boxes. This allows you to keep the items easily accessible, but in a more visually appealing manner. It creates a sense of organisation to the space. This would work well for blankets or toys, placing them in an open basket or storage box.

Complete 1 min jobs straight away

How often do you left the dishes sit on the side, not put the washing away, chuck post not he floor by the door? We aren’t actually processing the items or dealing with it. We just delay the inevitable. But why? These are all quick jobs. Any task that takes a minute or less should be done straight away.

Schedule a regular 5 min tidy

A quick 5 minute tidy is going to make a huge difference when it comes to maintain the clutter and reducing visual clutter. You could aim for 5 minutes every day or every other day. Find what suits you best and work towards that. You may find as you declutter more and more, that you need less time to tidy up each night. That’s the joy of owning less.

Put clothes away

It sounds silly, but I am sure I’m not the only one that lets clothes pile up at the end of the bed or on the side. There is an easier way to manage this – it’s just a case of putting it straight back into the wardrobe or straight into the wash as soon as you take them off. This will drastically improve the feel of the bedroom so that you wake up to a fresh start each day.

Do dishes straight away

This is sometimes more than a 1 minute job, but without doing it straight after you finished cooking, creates a large amount of visual clutter on the kitchen side. Get in the habit of doing this straight away, when it is easier to do and then it doesn’t become a job you have to come back to.

Have multi-purpose items

This is a great way to reduce the number of items you have in your home, by making sure there serve more than one purpose. This could be conditioner used as shaving cream, a multi-style for hair, dresses that can be causal and be dressed up. You will find that you use the item more too.

These 10 tips are a great way of reducing the visual clutter in your home.
